Frequently Asked Questions
This is the section you need to be looking in if perhaps you have a question that you are unable to find an answer to anywhere else on this website. As and when any queries come to my attention, I will update this list to try and ensure that all your questions are answered as fully as possible.
- Q. I swim 2-3 times a week, in a chlorine pool, will this damage the gel?
A. If the pool is highly chlorinated, then there is some chance of the gel becoming soft or discoloured, as chlorine is a very strong chemical. My advice would be to apply Top Coat to your nails prior to your swim, to seal and protect the gel. After swimming, always remember to wash your hands in warm, soapy water to remove any chlorine residue;
- Q. What are the main advantages of artificial nail applications?
A. For people with a tendency towards nail-biting or picking, artificial nail applications are a great way of encouraging you to stop. Firstly, because you are less likely to damage something you have invested time and money in, secondly because for the first time in a long time, you will have beautiful hands;
- Q. Will my natural nails continue to grow under the enhancement or overlay?
A. Yes. Providing you return for regular maintenence, ideally every 2 weeks, and given that the correct homecare advice is being followed;
- Q. I have very weak nails, that have a tendency to be flakey - what is the best treatment for me?
A. This is a very common problem. Nails can lose the natural adhesive that holds the layers of the nail together, leading to the nail layers peeling and the nail becoming thin and weak. The nail can break and peel until there is no free edge. The nail is also very absorbent and too much water can also lead to splitting and peeling.
It is important for the healthy condition of the nail, that the layers are kept sealed. The slightest break in the bond between the layers (either by knocking the nail, using the nail as a tool or washing hands in cleaning chemicals) can lead to layer separation. Without attention, this situation can turn into a vicious circle of water seepage, layer separation and top layer peeling. My Recommendation: Firstly, a professional manicure with some conditioning treatments, and then for excellent protection I would suggest a Bio Sculpture Gel Overlay, followed by fortnightly maintenance.
And, of course, the daily use of Cuticle Oil, such as Creative Nail Design's Solar Oil to moisturise and nourish the nails and cuticle;
- Q. I have lovely long nails and one has just split. I don't want to have to cut them all down - what can I do?
A. If the nail is still intact, with just a split in it, then I can do a single nail repair. A silk wrap of your nail is the most natural looking, and just as strong as the real thing. If you have lost your nail then I would recommend a tip with an overlay, in either acrylic or gel;
